Colin Johnson - Managing Director [MEng]

Colin is the Managing Director and leads the company to deliver gauging services and innovative software to the Rail Industry.

Colin joined DGauge in December 2010 as an Engineer, applying the pioneering research to real-time client challenges, such as dynamic pantograph gauging. He has always been driven to design new and innovative tools using the latest technologies, and to deliver them in a realistic commercial environment.

Dr David Johnson - Technical Director [CEng]

David is the Technical Director and currently oversees the Standards and software development aspects of the business.

David started DGauge in 2008 as a research enterprise and is a true innovator with a track record of introducing technology onto the Railway. His career has spanned over 40 years, covering research, engineering, management and company leadership. He developed the first computerised gauging software and has been involved in a number of high-profile projects over his career. His recent work includes developing Dynamic Pantograph Gauging (applied on the GWEP), Transitional curve modelling, Articulation modelling and 3D dynamic modelling. David is also an advisor to RSSB and co-author of current Railway Group Standards for Gauging (GE/RT8073) and co-author of Guidance Note on Gauging (GE/GN8573).

Sean Symons - Principal Engineer

Sean joined DGauge in 2014 and with 18 years experience in the railway industry, has a comprehensive understanding of rail vehicle design, development and vehicle gauging acceptance process.

In his role as a Principal Engineer, he is responsible for delivery of a variety of services, including technical advice, to support Network Rail, vehicle manufacturers, regulatory bodies and train operating companies on all aspects of the vehicle gauging process.

Steve Cartledge - Principal Engineer

Steve joined DGauge at the start of 2015 with over 10 years gauging experience, returning to the railway industry after a successful teaching career.

In his role of Principal Engineer, he project manages the gauging assessments and with over 20 years experience using a range of bespoke software packages he plays an important part in the development, validation and testing of DGauge's software tools (including PhX™ and RouteSpace™). Steve has gained a lot of experience on the gauging of tilting trains through the Pendolino and Voyager projects, experience which he now uses to support a number of vehicle introduction projects.

Ian Johnston - Project Engineer

Ian joined in October 2016 and consults on a wide variety on gauge clearance projects and is responsible for leading electrification gauging within the company. He works on projects at a variety of GRIP levels completing projects from early optioneering stages through to final detailed design and onto installation as built analysis.

Richard Cumberlidge - Project Engineer

Richard joined DGauge in November 2017 after studying for a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University. In his role as Project Engineer, Richard supports a wide variety of projects including transitional assessments and dynamic pantograph gauging using DGauge’s bespoke software packages.

Iain Court - Strategic Advisor

Iain is a Rail engineering and business professional with 33 years industry experience of which the last 15 years have been working at Director level within both consulting and contracting organisations.

Iain is a strategic adviser to DGauge supporting us in the development of clients, and helping identify the future products and services required to meet the industry challenges.

Tom Coughlin - Finance Manager

Tom joined DGauge as Finance Manager in September 2017. After completing a master's degree in engineering he became a Chartered Certified Accountant, and worked for a number of years in financial and professional services. Tom has always maintained a passion for engineering and technology, and loves working with exciting, dynamic and enterprising companies. As such DGauge was the ideal opportunity for Tom to be involved with both. Tom is responsible for the day to day financial management of DGauge, along with all aspects of statutory taxes and reporting. He is also responsible for commercial insight and support.

Jenni Willison - Assistant Engineer

Jenni joined DGauge in September 2016 on a Higher Apprenticeship after completing her A Levels. She is training for a Project Engineer role. While studying for her degree, Jenni supports a wide variety of customers and projects, most notably supporting Train Operator Companies in interrogating, and interpreting the stepping risks using RouteSpace™.

George Carroll-Elks - Assistant Engineer

George joined DGauge in September 2017 as an apprentice after completing his National Extended Diploma in Engineering at Derby College, during which time he underwent a two-week long work experience placement in Germany. Now in his first year of his apprenticeship, George is working towards becoming a successful Project Engineer at DGauge with on the job learning and academic studies at college twice a week.

Glenn Walker - Development Manager

Glenn joined DGauge in September 2017 after moving between the engineering and IT sectors. Constantly improving his technical and enterprise expertise, Glenn has intimate knowledge of the software industry and the ways in which IT excellence can generate business value. He has a distinguished history of achievement, having achieved globally recognized qualifications and certifications from the Chartered Management Institute, Microsoft and Axelos.

In his role as Development Manager, he is responsible for leading the software team to deliver outstanding and innovative products to our customers.

Ignacio Perez - Software Developer

Ignacio joined DGauge in 2014 to develop desktop applications and Database technology and web applications. He has a passion for learning new programming languages, tools and methods. He is fluent in Spanish and English, and studied Analyst Programming at ORT University.
